Abdelbasset Abdessamad - عبد الباسط عبد الصمد

Abdelbasset Abdessamad, a big reciter and Sheik of the Muslims, was born in the year 1927 in the village of Maraza, near the city of Armanate in the municipality of Kana, and more generally in the South of big Egypt . During his childhood, he was introduced to a religious atmosphere, where everybody speaks about the holy quran and matters the concerned Allah the most merciful. A passion was created in this magnificent field of Islam, in the heart of the kid Abdelbasset Abdelssamad. Hence, all the social elements of his entourage encouraged him to take this road towards the absolutism of modesty and the innocence.

Abdelbasset Abdessamad’s grandfather is also the illustrious of the biggest recitors of quran. Also his father Mouhamed Abd El Samad, was a reliable reference among their people. Furthermore, his two brothers, Mahmoud and Abd El Hamid, helped him throughout his career, just like his ancestors did. As a matter of fact, the whole family is an example of bravery by facing the difficulties of life under hard circumstances in Egypt.

However, since his youngest age, Abdelbasset Abdessamad learned the holy quran, without any difficulties by the help of his master at Mohammed El Amir school. Moreover, he decided to study with commitment and with the other learners of celestial Sheik Mohammed Salim Hamadah. At the age of 10 only, Abdelbasset Abdessamad was able of reciting every sixty Suras of holy quran.

His close relations were amazed, thus this was not a surprise anymore when it became a big and famous recitor in the South of Egypt (Assai'd). An event took place, which completely knocked down his personal life, was the succession of the festivities that took place at the same period as that of his birth and which coincided his troublesome visit of Sayida Zineb. These events were organized by the famous Sheik who enjoyed a big international, we cite Abdelfattah Che3cha3i, Moustafa Isma' hil, Abdeladim Zaher, Abu L3inin Sh3esha3, and others of the same intellect and importance.

During this meeting, which was a genuine opportunity to prove his vocal talents, we asked him to recite some verses of the holy Quran during a small period of time. Abdelbasset Abdessamad drew everyone’s attention thanks to his talent of reciting Surat Al Ahzab. He ended by a complete service of this event which lasted an hour and a half. Abdelbasset Abdessamad’s legend is huge, and therefore was the start of a magnificent career, with a supplement of soul in his image and his talents .

In the year 1951, Sheik Abdelbasset Abdessamad, through his recitation of the Sura Fatir, entered the radio in Egypt; his country of birth. His success has not stopped. We all shared the tears, a year later, when he became a reciter of the mosque of Imam Shafe' i. After that, he returned to the mosque of Imam EL Hussein in the year 1985 to take over the legendary Sheik Mahmoud Ali El Banna, who died in inconvenient circumstances .

Sheikh and reciter Abdelbasset Abdessamad thus became the one symbolic faces of the Muslim religion, and was therefore the very first president of the labor union of the Egyptian reciters in 1984. His excellent sense and perfection and his clean soul made him receive several prices such as the order of Merit, during his journey in Syria in 1956, the order of the golden medal of Malaysia, the order of Alarz in Lebanon, and other prices in Senegal and also in Morocco. Not only he was a legend in his lifetime but also after his death in 1988. He was attributed a prize for being at the top of his generation, by the Egyptian president Husni Mubarak during the holy night of Ramadan.
